Message from the FIM President

I would like to greet all the people involved in this opening round of the 2010 MAXXIS FIM Enduro World Championship that is taking place in Valverde del Camino, Spain, the first one of eight events which count towards this year’s Championship contest.

Enduro is the oldest motorcycling sport. It is also the motorcycle sport which has been for many years the most accessible to the amateur motorcyclist. Its evolution has been very significant throughout the years, becoming also more and more professional. The company ABC Communication, partner of the FIM in this discipline, has been taking care of the promotion and television broadcasting of the MAXXIS FIM Enduro World Championship since 2003 and has put a lot of work into this sport. The Series have become a true World Championship visiting new countries outside Europe such as Mexico in 2009. In 2010 a round will be held in Turkey for the first time, thus opening up new horizons for this discipline.

Despite the difficult economic situation in the whole world in general, the motorcycle sport will keep on with its development. In fact, the sport will continue because there is a strong necessity to do so, for all the actors of the sport and also – mainly – the spectators. Especially in a period of crisis, people will continue to attend sporting events; it is part of their life, and they are not ready to give it up. So we are on the brink of a new Enduro season with great expectations for exciting off road competition from our best riders.

I would like to express my sincere congratulations to the organisers and the National Federations, to our partner ABC Communication who is continuing to develop and work in order to make Enduro a top-level sport, to our Enduro and Cross-Country Rallies Commission and to the spectators and fans. I wish every success to all the riders, teams and participants in this 2010 season.
